4 HVAC Tips for a Cozy, Happy Holiday, Plus a Winter Special

While we might not get a white Christmas, many Florida residents still dream of a cozy holiday at home with friends and family. But you can’t have an inviting home if your HVAC system isn’t working properly.

This holiday season, make sure your home is warm and welcoming with these HVAC maintenance tips.

Replace air filters.

Regularly changing out air filters is the easiest way to ensure your HVAC keeps your home warm this holiday season. Air filters are the system’s first line of defense against airborne contaminants that can clog the unit. Dirty air filters prevent air from flowing unobstructed through the ducts and system, resulting in inefficient heating and a system that works too hard.

How often you change your air filters will depend on your system and environmental factors such as pets in your home, outdoor air quality, and whether or not you have allergies. At the minimum, change your air filters every 90 days, or at the start of each season.

Check your system for leaks.

Refrigerant leaks are a common cause of faulty HVAC systems. Refrigerant is a chemical blend that cycles through your HVAC system, changing from liquid to gas and back again as it absorbs and releases heat. Over time, the chemicals and constant pressure of refrigerant can cause corrosion that damages gaskets and leads to pinhole leaks.

The most obvious sign of a refrigerant leak is ice on your evaporator coils, but poor heating or cooling, humid indoor air, and high utility bills also indicate a problem. If you notice any of these issues, contact your HVAC technician to determine the source of and repair the leak.

Make necessary repairs.

If you’ve been putting off small repairs on your HVAC system, now is the time to schedule them. The end of the cooling season is the perfect time to make any necessary repairs, ensuring your home stays warm and cozy for the holiday season and beyond.

Not only do small repairs keep your home comfortable, but they can also save you money in the long run. Fixing simple issues in your system will make your unit work more efficiently, resulting in lower energy bills and an increased lifespan for your unit.  Call a trained HVAC technician to make any needed repairs before the holidays get underway.

Schedule a tune-up.

The majority of HVAC breakdowns happen during the first system cycle of the season. Don’t wait for the first chilly night of the holiday season to find out your system is malfunctioning! Schedule a tune-up for your HVAC system with a preventive maintenance visit.

Regular preventive maintenance allows technicians to catch small issues before they become large breakdowns. During a maintenance visit, technicians thoroughly inspect your system to ensure all components are working correctly and efficiently.
